Chelsea FC hosted its
second consecutive "Samsung- Chelsea FC Youth Football Camp" at the
Chelsea Blue Pitch, NPNG Sports Centre. As part of Samsung
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, they want to give back to the
community it is involved while providing opportunities to youth in the country
by providing support to develop football at grass-roots level.
This year’s 2 days camp saw participation by 180 kids aged 9-13, from
Rumah Sayangan, who attended last year, as well as KL Youth Soccer, MyKids
Soccer and soccer stars from Little League Malaysia.
Samsung
Malaysia Marketing Director, Jimmy Tan said that Rumah Sayangan have
always been invited to Samsung’s community event especially those sport
related. He hopes the children will not only enjoy playing football at Chelsea
Blue Pitch but also carry back the useful tips and guidance from the coaches.
It is something to proud of when he added that Malaysia is the second country
inside Asia to have the Chelsea Blue Pitch.
The youth were trained by Chelsea FC youth coaches, David Monk, James
Lambdon, Chris Woodward and Sam Hubbert. In each action packed two hour
coaching clinic, which featured dribbling skills, shooting practice, mini
matches, challenges and a penalty shoot-out, each of the children enjoyed the
same standard of coaching in Chelsea FC Academy.
The coaches went to Ghana, Ivory Coast, South Korea, Japan, and
Vietnam before coming to Malaysia. The four coaches are very friendly and their
lessons are taught in a lively and funny way
David Monk, who is also part of Chelsea FC’s Talent Identification &
Development set up, said the main objective of this workshop is to engage with
the community and provide a chance for the children to play football the
Chelsea way. He added that all the training is developed according to the needs
of each workshop.
Samsung started its youth soccer programs in 2007 since then more than
1650 children from all around the world have experienced Chelsea FC’s way of
football.
